Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra

All Ages
Delfeayo Marsalis & the UJO preserve the traditions of New Orleans jazz with an energy and sound that is incomparably all their own.

Described as "one of the best, most imaginative and musical of the trombonists of his generation" (Philip Elwood, San Francisco Examiner), Delfeayo Marsalis is understood to be one of the top trombonists, composers and producers in jazz today. He continues an esteemed musical lineage alongside father and pianist Ellis Marsalis, and brothers Branford, Wynton, and Jason. In 2011, the Marsalis family were recognized with a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award, one of the highest honours in jazz.

With the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, Delfeayo is bandleader. The orchestra performs original compositions, blues and jazz standards that combine riff-playing, spontaneity, collective improvisation, and New Orleans second line groove.

The orchestra was formed in 2008 as a multi-generational ensemble of New Orleans' finest musicians. The group strives to preserve and present the essence of big band and jazz traditions. Individually, the musicians of UJO have championed jazz all over the world.
